A valentine for King County’s natural resources

King County’s Natural Resources deserve love – on Valentine’s and all-year-round. We have some tips on how you can share the love this Valentine’s Day.

Trash less this Valentine’simage1

We love our Solid Waste Division’s yard waste collection services. Almost 35% of what ends up in the landfill is food scraps and food-soiled paper, and that it can be recycled in your curbside yardwaste cart. Show how much you love the environment by composting flowers from that special someone (after the flowers die, of course).

Year-round love for local food

If you’re planning a romantic dinner, cook up some local ingredients at home. There are several farmers markets that operate year-round to source your special dish.

Start fresh with Threadcycle

For those who like to hate on Valentine’s Day, maybe it’s a good time to start fresh. Goodwill last year asked people to donate their ex’s stuff. You can donate your ex’s old clothes, even damaged clothes, for reuse or recycling with King County’s Threadcycle program at the following locations.

Get romantic with King County Parks

Finally, what is a better backdrop for romance than nature? Go on a romantic hike at one of King County Parks backcountry trails.
