Earth Week, our favorite week

Earth Day is around the corner and King County’s Easy Being Green provides ideas for starting a green lifestyle habit and makes the point that small, cumulative environmental actions can lead to positive changes.

Spring cleaning: Recycle trashed clothes

Up to 95 percent of the clothes, shoes and linens thrown into the garbage could have been reused or recycled. Instead, they end up in landfills. What you can do? Recycle.

Threadcycle is a program that makes recycling old clothes easy. Items that we may think are useless are made into wiping rags, home insulation, sound proofing, pet bedding and insulation for automobiles and appliances.

Locations accept clothes and linens in any condition except wet, mildewed, or contaminated with hazardous material.

Here’s the list of drop off locations.

Natural Yard Care

Want to save time, money and resources – while at the same time creating a yard that will turn your neighbors green with envy? Practice natural yard care – with the help of King County.

Natural yard care is not only a simple concept – it means simpler gardening! By using the beautiful trees, plants and other vegetation that are native to the Pacific Northwest, you’ll not only save time maintaining a lush and attractive yard, but you’ll also save on your water bill, while spending less money on fertilizers and other chemicals.
